BLESSINGS CORNER – 4/21/2019

Today, we celebrate one of the greatest days of all mankind! The day of the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ, from the terrible death on the cross, and triumphed over death, grave and Hell, and rose again as the King of Kings and Lord of all Lords. He conquered death for all mankind, and took away the fear from all of our lives.

During this time that we reflect this monumental day, we reflect on the HOPE it gives us for not only our lives, but for all mankind.

Many years ago, I remember walking into a church in California, on Easter Sunday, by myself and they started singing the song, by Bill and Gloria Gather, called “Because He Lives”. I was at a time in my life, that my whole world had fallen apart and I had lost all hope if ever finding life worth living. I remember raising my hands, with tears falling down my face singing out of the depths of hopelessness…because He lives, I can face tomorrow. Those who have also been in that place of utter hopelessness will understand, what happened next. As I began to sing these words, the whole meaning of Easter and the hope of new life and resurrection became more than just a ritual, it brought life to me when I had given up.

That Sunday, my life changed forever. The moment I began to sing HOPE rose up in me that I had thought impossible. I also know that there are some reading this article who also know what it is like to experience glimpses of why we truly celebrate this special day of all days.

From that day on I began to see that as I trusted our Lord, who conquered over all, He would put my life back together again.

The words to this beautiful song, written by Bill and Gloria Gaither, and awarded the gospel song of the year in 1974, are included below.

“God sent His son, they called Him, Jesus;

He came to love, heal and forgive;

He lived and died to buy my pardon

An empty grave is there to prove my Savior lives!

Because He lives, I can face tomorrow

Because He lives, all fear is gone;

Because I know He holds the future

And life is worth the living

Just because He lives!

How sweet to hold a newborn baby

And feel the pride and joy he gives;

But greater still the calm assurance:

This child can face uncertain days because He Lives!

Because He lives, I can face tomorrow

Because He lives, all fear is gone;

Because I know He holds the future

And life is worth the living

Just because He lives!

And then one day, I’ll cross the river

I’ll fight life’s war with pain;

And then I’ll see lights of glory and I’ll know He lives!

We all know that music is many times called the language of the soul. Through these songs, birthed by human suffering, our spirit receives comfort and healing.

It is my sincere hope that all who are reading this would pause for a moment and reflect on the message that these songs give us, a message of hope and not to be afraid of the future. For if we put our trust in the risen Lord Jesus Christ we have that promise that He will give us something worth living for.
